Who needs tutoring?

Anyone can benefit from tutoring. Some of my clients are A students who just want an extra edge. At the other extreme I have people who say, “I was gone for two weeks, can you teach me chapters 3, 4 and 5?” I can help you regardless of your situation.

How does it work?

Here’s what works best most of the time:

First, you make your best effort to do the assignments on your own. Then you come to me with specific questions. Ideally, you bring a list a problems or sections of the book that gave you trouble. It’s important for you to prepare in this way so that we don’t waste time (and your money) on things that you could have figured out on your own. Together, we go down your list and bang them out, 1-2-3. Working like this, we can get a lot done in 60 minutes.

You may need something different. As a professional educator, I have training in helping students with diverse learning styles, and I take pride in being able to help people with a variety of needs.

My Credentials

I have a Master’s Degree in Physics from Michigan State University and a Teaching Certificate from Eastern Michigan University. I tutored physics and math for 20 years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I have taught high school science and math. I am a freelance tutor and not affiliated with any university.

Study Hints:

  1. Use sticky tabs to mark pages in the book that you frequently use. This saves lots of time.
  2. Go to every class and write down everything that the instructor writes on the board, regardless of whether you understand it. This will help even if you never look at your notes again.
  3. Don’t wait until right before an exam to call a tutor, because the tutors may be too busy to see you.
